One of the most renowned hoteliers in Sydney, Andrew Lazarus, has purchased the Beach Hotel Merewether, an iconic beach hotel located in Newcastle.
Although the hotelier did not disclose the sale price of the hotel, he promised to revolutionize the hotel, which his family has been wanting to buy for many years.
The Lazarus family has created a good name for itself by owning and operating many hotels in the hospitality industry for about thirty years under the Eastern Hotels Group umbrella.
Some of the hotels owned and operated by the Eastern Hotels Groups include Hamilton, The Exchange Hotel, Shoal Bay Country Clun, the El Toro Hotel & Motor Inn, among other luxurious hotels across the nation.
Peter Lazarus, Lazarus’ brother, who not only serves as the director of the Eastern Hotels Groups but was also hugely involved in the remodeling of the Shoal Bay Country Club, which cost $6.5 million, will be in charge of the newly acquired hotel.
The new acquisition is referred to as “Newcastle Trophy Asset” and is currently being marketed by Mike Whitley and Deane Moore.
The former is an executive at Knight Frank, while the latter is a top executive at Moore & Moore Real Estate.
The hotel is strategically situated along 99 Frederick Street and has a beautiful view of incredible beaches, making it attract many customers.
The property has enormous verandas with a backdrop of Merewether surf beach, situated a few miles from Newcastle’s central business district.
Although the Andrew Lazarus family wants to refurbish the hotel, they are collecting views and opinions from people and architects in the local community before making a final decision on the kind of upgrade that suits the Beach Hotel Merewether hotel.
The hotel’s former owner is happy to have sold it to the right owners.
